The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued information about 24 different product recalls for the month of May. Below is the list of products, issues, and remedies involving the recall and replacement of the affected products. 1. Sharper Image and Frigidaire Mandoline Slicers Recalled by Premier Kitchen Products

Recall Date: May 1, 2018

Reason for Recall: Laceration Injury

Recall Hazard: The small blades in the julienne slicer attachment can separate from the plastic assembly, posing a laceration hazard.

Description: This recall involves The Sharper Image and Frigidaire Mandoline slicers. The recalled slicers are a non-electric food preparation item used to slice and julienne vegetables. The slicers have a clear plastic container to capture the sliced food, two blade attachments (one large-blade slicer and one small-blade julienne slicer), a holder for the attachments and a plastic knob component to move and hold the food. The model number and UPC code are printed on the packaging. “Frigidaire” is printed on the side of the Frigidaire slicers.

Recall Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled slicers and contact Premier Kitchen Products for instructions on how to receive a refund in the form of a $15 gift card.

Number of Units Affected: About 19,000 (in addition, about 230 were sold in Canada)

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received four reports of the small blades separating from the julienne attachment during food preparation. No injuries have been reported.

 

2. Carter’s Recalls Children’s Cardigan Sets

Recall Date: April 3, 2018

Reason for Recall: Burn Hazard

Recall Hazard: The plastic enclosure can overheat, posing a burn hazard.

Description: This recall involves Scotch thermal laminators that are white with teal accents. They are used to laminate documents such as artwork and photos. The laminators have “Scotch” printed on the front. They measure 14 inches by 3.8 inches by 2.75 inches. The model number TL901C is printed on a sticker on the bottom of the laminator. Only laminators with model number TL901C and teal accents are included in the recall. The two side ends, the bottom and the reverse switch on top of the laminators are teal.

Recall Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled laminators and contact 3M for a full refund.

Number of Units Affected: About 107,200 (in addition, about 8,800 were sold in Canada)

Incidents/Injuries: 3M has received 10 reports of the laminators overheating and causing deformation of the bottom of the plastic enclosures. No injuries have been reported.

 

3. Hauck Fun For Kids Recalls Go-Karts

Recall Date: May 8, 2018

Reason for Recall: Laceration & Collision Hazard

Recall Hazard: The steering wheel on the go-kart can detach, break or crack while in use, posing a laceration and/or collision hazard to young children.

Description: This recall involves the Nerf® Battle Racers, a four-wheel pedal-powered go-kart for children ages 4 to 10. The “Nerf” logo can be found on each side of the go-kart and is etched into the black seat. The wheels are black and orange. It measures approximately 50 inches long by 27 inches high by 24 inches wide. The model number T91869, and the date of manufacture is printed on a white sticker located on the underside of the seat. Only go-karts with a date of manufacture between 01/2016 and 03/2017 are being recalled.

Recall Remedy: Consumer should immediately stop using the recalled go-karts and contact Hauck for a new steering wheel.

Number of Units Affected: About 26,300 (In addition, about 2,100 were sold in Canada)

Incidents/Injuries: Hauck has received 639 reports in the United States of the steering wheel detaching, breaking or cracking with one resulting in a laceration to a child’s face requiring stitches and one resulting in a minor scrape to a child’s chest.

 

4. Women’s Scarves Recalled by Wrapables

Recall Date: May 9, 2018

Reason for Recall: Violation of Federal Flammability Standard

Recall Hazard: The women’s scarves fail to meet the federal flammability standard for clothing textiles, posing a risk of burn injuries to consumers.

Description: This recall involves 100% silk Wrapables women’s scarves. The scarves measure about 65 inches long by 21 inches wide and have a small side seam label with “100% silk” printed on it. The scarves were sold in the following 13 colors: Azure Blue, Bright Fuchsia, Brown Corn Silk Cream, Dark Blue, Floral White, Lime Green, Midnight Black, Orchid Purple, Peony Pink, Rose Red, Sky Blue, and Tangerine Orange. On Amazon.com, the recalled scarves were sold as “Wrapables Lightweight 100% Silk Butterfly Print Long Scarf.

Recall Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled scarves and contact Wrapables for a full refund. Wrapables is contacting directly consumers who purchased the scarves online from Walmart.com and Amazon.com.

5. Specialized Bicycle Components Recalls Bicycles with Stout Cranks

Recall Date: May 9, 2018

Reason for Recall: Fall & Injury Hazard

Recall Hazard: The drive side crankarm can disengage and cause the rider to lose control, posing fall and injury hazards.

Description: This recall involves Specialized Fuse Comp and Fatboy SE bicycles with Stout cranks. The bikes come in Gloss Hyper/Black Clean and Satin Gloss Black/Rocket Red for Fuse Comp and Gloss Warm Charcoal/Black/Gallardo Orange and Satin Oak Green/Blac/Rocket Red for Fatboy SE. Only cranks with “STOUT” written on either crankarm and equipped with a direct-mount chainring manufactured in 2017 are affected. Cranks are manufactured in 2017 if the serial code imprinted on the inside of either crankarm starts with “17.”

Recall Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bicycles with stout cranks and contact an Authorized Specialized Retailer for instructions on how to receive a free replacement crankarm.

6. ALDI Recalls Deep Fryers

Recall Date: May 10, 2018

Reason for Recall: Fire & Burn Hazard

Recall Hazard: The deep fryer heating element can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards.

Description: This recall involves Ambiano mini deep fryers sold in two colors, brushed stainless steel and red. The recalled deep fryers have a black lid and were sold with a metal food basket. The deep fryers measure about 9.45 inches wide by 10.43 inches high by 8.23 inches deep. The units have Ambiano printed on the front. The barcode numbers listed below can be found on the bottom of the unit on the silver rating label.

Recall Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled deep fryers and return it to their local ALDI store for a full refund.

7. Munchkin Recalls Waterpede Bath Toys

Recall Date: May 10, 2018

Reason for Recall: Choking Hazard

Recall Hazard: The knife blade can cut through the protective leather sheath, posing a laceration hazard.

Description: This recall involves Munchkin’s Waterpede bath toys. The one-piece multi-colored Centipede -shaped toy allows water to be scooped from the top, and flows through the chambers on the bottom. The bath toy is 100% plastic and is for children six months and up.

Recall Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the bath toy away from young children and contact Munchkin for a free replacement bath toy of comparable value.

Number of Units Affected: About 72,000

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received one report of the toy breaking apart and exposing small beads. No injuries have been reported.

 

8. illy 8.8-Ounce Whole Bean Coffee Cans

Recall Date: May 10. 2018

Reason for Recall: Injury Hazard

Recall Hazard: The coffee bean can lid can detach suddenly with force upon opening when missing an air valve on the bottom, posing an injury hazard.

Description: This recall involves only Whole Bean 250 gram/8.8 ounce cans of illy coffee in medium, dark roast and decaf with no air valve on the bottom of the canister with a best by date of 10/2019, 11/2019, or 12/2019 printed on the bottom of the can. The silver, cylinder-shaped coffee cans have the “illy” logo printed on the front with a red, black or green-colored accent line across the top and bottom of the can.

Recall Remedy: Consumers should not open or use a recalled coffee can and contact illy for a free replacement product.

9. Babynest Crib Bumpers

Recall Date: May 10, 2018

Reason for Recall: Strangulation Hazard

Recall Hazard: The strings on the crib bumper exceed a safe length, posing a strangulation hazard to babies.

Description: This recall involves Babynest crib bumpers used in Babybay bedside sleeper cribs that attach to adult size beds. The recalled bumpers measure 60 inches long by 9.5 inches wide and were sold in seven colors; yellow, brown, green, blue, pink, white, gray with white stars, white with gray stars, gray with white polka dots, white with gray polka dots and white with blue stars.

Number of Units Affected: About 200

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

 

10. Harbor Freight, One Stop Gardens, and Chicago Electric 14-Inch Electric Chainsaws

Recall Date: May 14, 2018

Reason for Recall: Serious Injury Hazard

Recall Hazard: The power switch can malfunction and allow the chainsaw to continue operating after the operator moves the switch to the “off” position, posing a serious injury hazard to the operator.

Description: This recall involves two models of 14-inch chainsaws sold under three different brand names. The Portland and One Stop Gardens brand chainsaws have a green and black color scheme and  “Portland” printed on the blades. The Chicago Electric brand chainsaw has a red and black color scheme and “Chicago Electric” printed on the chainsaw handle. All recalled chainsaws were sold with a black blade guard. The model number is printed on a label on the bottom of the chainsaw.

Recall Remedy: Replace

Number of Units Affected: About 1,020,000

Incidents/Injuries: Harbor Freight Tools has received 15 reports of chainsaws continuing to operate after being turned off by the operator, resulting in three laceration injuries including one serious injury to the arm requiring stitches.

 

11. NY Thermal (NTI) Trinity Residential & Commercial Boilers

Recall Date: May 15, 2018

Reason for Recall: Carbon Monoxide Hazard

Recall Hazard: The grommet seal can reduce in size over time and dislodge during use and allow the boiler to emit carbon monoxide, posing a CO poisoning hazard.

Description: This recall involves NY Thermal (NTI) manufactured gas boilers sold under the Trinity Tft and Slant/Fin CHS brand names used for residential and commercial use. The Trinity Tft models have the name “NTI” printed on the front and were sold in metallic-grey. The Trinity Tft60 through Tft250 model boilers measure 33 inches tall by 20 inches wide. The Trinity Tft300 through Tft399 model boilers measure 36 inches tall and 25 inches wide.

The Slant/Fin CHS models have the name “Slant/Fin” and “CHS” printed across the front bottom and were sold in white. The Slant/Fin CHS-85 through CHS-250 model boilers measure 33 inches tall by 20 inches wide. The Slant/Fin CHS-300 through CHS-399 model boilers measure 36 inches tall and 25 inches wide.

The model and UPC numbers are printed on the nameplate located on the right side of the boiler. The following model and UPC numbers are included in this recall:

Recall Remedy: Repair

Number of Units Affected: About 16,000 (in addition, about 7,000 were sold in Canada)

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received three reports of the grommet seal deteriorating or becoming dislodged and the boiler leaking condensation and carbon monoxide. No injuries have been reported.

 

12. P3-Tier Haunted Townhouse Candle Holders

Recall Date: May 15, 2018

Reason for Recall: Fire and Burn Hazards

Recall Hazard: The candle holder can ignite, posing fire and burn hazards.

Description: This recall involves Michaels private brand Ashland® 3-tier haunted townhouse candle holders. The candle holders were sold in black, measure about 20 inches tall by 7 inches wide by 5 inches deep and have two columns of three vertically stacked candle holders. Only 3-tier haunted townhouse candle holders with SKU number 513180 and UPC code 886946019340 printed on a hangtag are included in the recall.

Recall Remedy: Refunds

Number of Units Affected: About 10,000 (In addition, about 830 were sold in Canada)

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received one report of tea light candles igniting the candle holder. No injuries have been reported.

 

13. Regency Ultimate Direct Vent Gas Stove Fireplaces (Models U37 and U39)

Recall Date: May 15, 2018

Reason for Recall: Explosion and Injury Hazards

Recall Hazard: The pressure release system can fail and cause the gas stove to explode, posing explosion and injury hazards.

Description: This recall involves Regency Ultimate U37 and U39 direct vent gas stove fireplaces. They were sold in black and have gold or silver trim around the glass doors. “Regency” is printed on the front, bottom left corner of the pedestals of the stoves. The following model and serial numbers are included in the recall and are printed on a label located on the inside of the front panel door.

Recall Remedy: Repair

Number of Units Affected: About 13,700 (in addition, 11,300 were sold in Canada and 10 were sold in Mexico)

Incidents/Injuries: Regency has received three reports of the pressure system failing, and one report of the door hinge breaking, including one incident that resulted in minor cuts to the consumer’s legs.

 

14. Recreational Off-Highway Vehicles (ROVs)

Recall Date: May 15, 2018

Reason for Recall: Fire and Burn Hazard

Recall Hazard: The muffler can overheat, causing the plastic heat shield to melt or catch fire, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers.

Description: This recall involves all model year 2016 through 2017, and some model year 2018 Honda Pioneer 1000 Vehicles. The recalled vehicles were sold in various colors including: red, blue, green, gray and yellow. The name “HONDA” is on the front, sides and the rear of the vehicle. The model name Pioneer 1000 is printed on a label located on both sides of the vehicle, near the rear.  The serial number (VIN #) is stamped in the frame at the left rear, below the tilt-up bed/seat. The following model numbers and serial number ranges are being recalled:

Number of Units Affected: About 65,000

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received 22 reports of the muffler plastic heat shield melting and three reports of muffler plastic heat shield fires. No injuries have been reported.

 

15. Playground SuperMax Triple Slides

Recall Date: May 16, 2018

Reason for Recall: Entrapment Hazard

Recall Hazard: A gap between the rails near the entrance way to the slide poses an entrapment hazard to young children.

Description: This recall involves three models of Play and Park Structures SuperMax triple slides. The molded plastic playground slides were sold in multiple colors and have three single bedways and an eight-foot deck. They are age rated 5-12. The Play and Park Structures logo and the age rating are printed on a label located on the upper part of the outside perimeter of the playground structure. Model numbers 71717 (triple slide with spiral), 71718 (triple slide hood cascade) and 71732 (triple entrance cascade with square deck) are included in this recall. The model number is printed on the sales invoice.

Recall Remedy: Repair

Number of Units Affected: About 150

Incidents/Injuries: Play and Park Structures has received one report of a gap between the rails that poses an entrapment hazard. No injuries have been reported.

 

16. Creatology® Pottery Wheel Kits

Recall Date: May 17, 2018

Reason for Recall: Fire and Burn Hazard

Recall Hazard: The battery compartment in the pottery wheel kit can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards.

Description: This recall involves pottery wheel kits sold under the Michaels private brand Creatology®. The 16-piece kit includes a battery operated pottery wheel, 2 bags of clay, 4 molding tools, 6 paints, 2 paint brushes, and a sponge. The recalled pottery wheel kits are blue and have SKU number 078859 and one of the following UPC codes printed on the barcode on the back of the box.

Recall Remedy: Refund

Number of Units Affected: About 263,000

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received one report of overheating, and one report of a fire in the battery compartment in the pottery wheel kits. No injuries have been reported.

 

17. Creatology® Spin Art Kits

Recall Date: May 17, 2018

Reason for Recall: Fire and Burn Hazard

Recall Hazard: The battery compartment in the spin art kit can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards.

Description: This recall involves spin art kits sold under the Michaels private brand Creatology®. The 34-piece kit includes one battery operated spin art wheel with cover, paint, paint brushes, and paper. The recalled art kits are blue and have SKU number 197861 and one of the following UPC codes printed on the barcode on the box.

Recall Remedy: Refund

Number of Units Affected: About 110,000

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received two reports of battery compartments overheating in the spin art kits. No injuries have been reported.

 

18. Colorations™ Brand Extra-Large Crayons

Recall Date: May 17, 2018

Reason for Recall: Laceration Hazard

Recall Hazard: The red crayons in the multi-color sets can contain glass, posing a laceration hazard to the user.

Description: This recall involves Colorations™ brand 200 extra-large crayon sets, including 25 red crayons. The extra-large crayons measure about 4.5 inches long and .5 inches in diameter. The crayons were packaged in a purple and yellow box with the Colorations® logo printed on the box.

Recall Remedy: Replace

Number of Units Affected: About 2,200

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received two reports of a red crayon with glass in it. No injuries have been reported.

19. My First Porsche – Wooden Cars

Recall Date: May 22, 2018

Reason for Recall: Choking Hazard

Recall Hazard: The wheels and axles can detach from the wooden toy car, posing a choking hazard to young children.

Description: This recall involves a blue wooden toy Porsche car with tan wheels. The Porsche crest is printed on the front of the recalled toy cars. “PORSCHE” is printed on both sides of the recalled toy cars. They measure about 4 inches long by 2 inches wide by 1 1/2 inches tall. The underside of the toy has “BAJO” and a lot number printed on it. The following lot numbers are included in this recall.

20. Kohler Automatic Transfer Switches for Kohler Generators

Recall Date: May 23, 2018

Reason for Recall: Fire Hazard

Recall Hazard: The transfer switch can fail and overheat, posing a fire hazard.

Description: This recall involves Kohler 100-amp service entrance rated automatic transfer switches used with Kohler brand residential and commercial generators. “Kohler” is printed on the outside panel. Model number RXT-JFNC 100ASE and the serial number are printed on a nameplate located on the inside cover of the unit.

Recall Remedy: Consumers should immediately contact an authorized Kohler service representative or Kohler directly to schedule a free repair.

21. Jané Muum Strollers

Recall Date: May 24, 2018

Reason for Recall: Violation of the Federal Stroller and Carriage Safety Standard

Recall Hazard: An infant can pass through the opening between the stroller armrest and the seat bottom and his/her head and neck can become entrapped by the armrest, posing entrapment and strangulation hazards.

Description: This recall involves the US model of Jané Muum strollers. The recalled strollers have a black frame, a reclining seat or hammock that is reversible and a hood. An insert is sold with the stroller for smaller babies. There is a basket for storage underneath the stroller seat. The recalled strollers were sold in: dark gray and black (S85), light grey and black (S49), blue and black (S46) and green and black (S47). “Muum by Jané” is printed on the front bottom frame. “Muum” is printed on the side frame and on the handle. “Jané” and “Muum,” “Jané USA LLC,” “Muum US 5399US/S85” or “S47,” “S49,” “S46” are printed on a label on the leg of the stroller.

Recall Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled strollers and contact Jané for a free repair. The repair consists of a free replacement armrest. Consumers can continue using the recalled strollers if they remove the armrest and harness the child properly until they receive the replacement armrest.

Number of Units Affected: About 800.

22. John Deere 120R Compact Utility Tractor Loader

Recall Date: May 24, 2018

Reason for Recall: Injury Hazard

Recall Hazard: Information about the proper ballast when the loader is attached to a John Deere model 2025R tractor is missing from the operator’s manual. If improperly ballasted, the tractor can be unstable and create a risk of injury to the operator or bystanders.

Description: This recall involves John Deere model 120R loaders that attach to 2025R tractors. The recalled loaders are mostly green with yellow accents. The model number 120R is located on both sides of the loader. The serial number is located on the inside of the left boom arm of the loader. 23. Bluefin Wireless Phone Chargers

Recall Date: May 24, 2018

Reason for Recall: Burn Hazard

Recall Hazard: The wireless phone charger can overheat while in use, posing a burn hazard to consumers.

Description: This recall involves wireless smartphone chargers with model number AC16B printed on the bottom. The recalled chargers are circular and have clear edges and a white plastic center with black trim. They measure about 3.9″ in diameter and 0.4″tall. A black USB cable is included with the chargers.

Recall Remedy: Refund

Number of Units Affected: About 3,000

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received three reports of the phone chargers overheating. No injuries have been reported.

24. IKEA Bicycles

Recall Date: May 24, 2018

Reason for Recall: Fall Hazard

Recall Hazard: The bicycle belt can break, posing a fall hazard.

Description: This recall involves IKEA 26 inch and 28 inch SLADDA bicycles. The recalled bicycles are a light grey and have an aluminum frame. IKEA is printed at the bottom of the seat tube near the crank. The article number is printed on a sticker at the bottom of the down tube.

Recall Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bicycles and return them to any IKEA store for a full refund.

Number of Units Affected: About 4,900 (In addition, about 200 were sold in Canada)

Incidents/Injuries: None reported in the U.S.
